At one time, I needed an external DVD-RAM/ROM drive. Instead of buying retail or from internet / mail-order, I decided to try creating a homebrew…. I had an internal-to-external HDD conversion shell I wasn't using. I also had an extra internal DVD drive. The DVD drive wouldn't fit inside the HDD shell as is. The shell was cheap, flimsy and had a very simple construction. Because of those facts, I decided to dump the shell and keep the circuit board inside. I tried the finished homebrew drive on both XP & Win7 systems. It works perfectly on both. In the years between when this photo was originally taken and today, I was able to remove the two plastic legs that were the rear support for the top of the old HDD shell. I'm sure Angus MacGuiver would be proud of me. Take good care & have fun.
